No words for us...

I read 'My Sister's Keeper' a few days back. It has a very unexpected ending to say the least, but there was something in those final pages that rang a bell inside of me. I'm not sure why, but I explained it to LO. Our conversation went like this:
Me: You know that in the English language there is a word for children who have lost their parents...
LO: "Orphans?"
Me:"Yes, orphans." "There is also a word for people who have lost their husband or wife.."
LO: "What's that word momma?"
Me: "Widow or widower."
Me: "There is no word for people who have lost their children."
LO: "Is there a word for people who have lost their brother or sister?"
Me: "Nope."
Lo: "But why not?"
Me: "I believe, that there are no words for us, because no one would want to say them."
"They would be the saddest words you could ever say..."

I read 'My Sister's Keeper' a couple of years ago, and agree that it had a very surprising ending. We won't tell what it is for those who haven't read it.

I just finished her 'Handle With Care' and it also has an unexpected ending. I think Jody Piccoult just likes to end the books with a shock.

I also agree with you that there are no words to describe someone who has lost a child or a sibling.

I REALLY want to read 'Handle with Care', but I'm afraid it will make me cry like a baby!

'Handle With Care' might make you cry at the end, but it wasn't as 'emotional' as 'My Sister's Keeper'. That was the best book I read a couple of years ago.

HWC will make you cry at the end, if you are alone, and not in a car with 5 other people going on vacation! LOL! Read it, you will enjoy it!
